Bubba Jennings' journey to the Texas Tech Ring of Honor is a story rooted in excellence, loyalty, and a lifelong love for the game. A native of Clovis, New Mexico, Jennings arrived in Lubbock as one of the most decorated high school players in the region and quickly left his mark on the Red Raider program. From 1980–85, he started every game of his career, scored 1,760 points, and became one of the most accomplished guards in school history. A four-time All-Southwest Conference selection, Jennings was named SWC Player of the Year in 1985, led Texas Tech to a conference championship, and helped return the program to the NCAA Tournament.
His standout college career led to the professional ranks, as Jennings was selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1985 NBA Draft before continuing his playing career overseas in Europe. Though his time as a professional player was brief, it reflected the same toughness, intelligence, and passion that defined his years in Lubbock and set the stage for his future in the game.
Jennings soon transitioned into coaching, building a respected résumé at both the high school and collegiate levels. He won state championships, earned Coach of the Year honors, and eventually returned to Texas Tech as a member of the men's basketball staff, serving in multiple roles and mentoring countless student-athletes while continuing to pour into the program that shaped him.
Reflecting on the honor, Jennings said, "I am extremely honored and humbled to have been selected as a member of the Ring of Honor for Texas Tech basketball. I truly enjoyed my years at Texas Tech as a player from 1980–1985. Thanks to my coaches and teammates who were instrumental in this achievement. I am looking forward to the ceremony. To have my name go up with the greats of Texas Tech basketball is really special to me." His words echo a legacy defined by gratitude, leadership, and a lasting impact worthy of the Texas Tech Ring of Honor.
