The Arlington Baptist University Patriots opened regional play on a high note, rolling to a 3–0 start highlighted by a dominant win over the No. 2 team in the nation, Champion Christian.
ABU began the week against Dallas Christian College and controlled the game from the opening tip, leading nearly wire to wire in a 106–89 victory. The Patriots showcased their depth with five players scoring in double figures. Zion Bourgeois finished with 14 points, while Gary Gray posted an all-around performance with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. Trey Walters added 17 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists, and Marcel Dalcourt recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Davion Allen led all scorers with 29 points, adding five steals and shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc.
That momentum carried into a marquee matchup against No. 2 Champion Christian, where the Patriots entered as underdogs but quickly flipped the script. ABU jumped out to a 16–4 lead, forcing an early Champion timeout, and never looked back. Champion never held a lead in the game as the Patriots cruised to a convincing 113–84 win. Once again, five Patriots scored in double figures. Allen continued his dominant stretch with 22 points, while Bourgeois followed closely with 21.
The Patriots closed out the week against West Coast Baptist in a tighter contest. ABU took a one-point lead into halftime before pulling away in the second half to secure their fourth straight win and complete a perfect 3–0 regional start. Allen led the way with 22 points, including four made three-pointers. Bourgeois added 18 points, and freshman Donte Jones chipped in 11.
With momentum firmly on their side, the Patriots now turn their attention to a tough road test as they prepare to face nationally ranked Southwestern Adventist on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
