Unfinished Business: Women’s Basketball Ready to Chase Another Banner

After ending last season with a Southwest Regional Title and an appearance at the NCCAA DII National Tournament, the Arlington Baptist University women's basketball team is gearing up for the fast-approaching 2025–26 season.

The Lady Patriots welcome several new faces this year, including two new assistant coaches. Jasmine Johnson joins the staff from Tyler Junior College, bringing both years of coaching experience and a successful playing career at NCAA Division I Western Kentucky University. Jada Hollie also joins after graduating from McMurry University, where she served on the women's basketball staff.

From last season's Regional Championship squad, ABU returns eight players, highlighted by All-Region players Sa'Nya Green and Sophia Cortez. "Sa'Nya and Sophia both played huge roles in our success towards the end of the season," said head coach Skye Roach. "I'm excited to see them continue to grow and flourish."

The roster also features some key transfers. MyLeah Young last played at Midland College, where she started 23 of 28 games. "MyLeah is a solid guard with a good basketball IQ. She is a great addition to this team and I'm very excited to see what she accomplishes this season," said Roach. Paris Beard, a two-time NJCAA All-American at Dallas College–Richland, is expected to make an immediate impact. "Paris is a special player," Roach added. "She can score in multiple ways, she hustles, plays great defense... She will be an exciting player for Patriot Nation to watch."

Several freshmen are also expected to contribute. "This is one of the strongest freshman classes we've had in a while. I have high expectations for several of them," said Roach. "They work hard and they have already made practices a lot more competitive."

The Lady Patriots open their season with an exhibition matchup at Texas Wesleyan University on October 23rd. Their first home game of the season will be against Texas College on November 11th.
