The Arlington Baptist University women's basketball team traveled to Tyler, TX to take on NAIA opponent Texas College on their Homecoming night and returned with their first win of the 2025-26 season.
The Lady Patriots came out strong, running the floor well in transition and gaining a quick lead which forced Texas College to call the first timeout of the game. Texas College pushed back though, and the first half remained close with the Lady Patriots going into half time with a 5-point lead.
Fueled by their Homecoming crowd, Texas College went on a run to start the 3rd quarter. However, the Lady Patriots showed resilience and fought back to end the 3rd quarter with a 4-point lead.
The 4th quarter was full of several lead changes and a lot of back-and-forth on the offensive end.
Aniya Jackson shined offensively, scoring half of her 14 points in the 4th quarter including an and-1 bucket to put the Lady Patriots up by 3. Texas College then hit a three-pointer to tie the game with less than 10 seconds left and keep their hopes of a Homecoming win alive. However,
Paris Beard would spoil that hope with a layup to put ABU up by 2 points and seal the win.
Beard ended up with 10 points, shooting 50% from the field, including that game-winning shot.
MyLeah Young led the Lady Patriots in scoring with 15 points, followed by
Aniya Jackson's 14 points off the bench.
Sa'Nya Green was a force on defense racking up 9 steals, while also adding 8 points.
The Lady Patriots' next two competitions are exhibition games at Mid-America Christian University and UT-Rio Grande Valley. They will face Texas College once again in their first home game on November 11th.
