Arlington Baptist Patriots Complete Sweep of Randall University Saints

FORT WORTH, TX - The Arlington Baptist University Patriots baseball team dominated in a three-game series against the Randall University Saints this weekend, winning all three contests to improve their season record to an impressive 10-1.

The Patriots showcased their offensive prowess and pitching strength throughout the weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on Sunday, February 23rd, and concluding with a final game on Monday, February 24th at their home field in Fort Worth, Texas.

In Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader, the Patriots shut out the Saints 11-0 in a mercy-rule shortened seven innings. The Patriots jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning before adding four more runs in the fourth and continuing to build their advantage.

Sophomore Layne Wilkerson led the offensive charge with a standout performance, tallying three runs, two hits, and four RBIs. Major Cantrell contributed significantly with three runs and three hits, while JP Mendoza added two hits and two RBIs. On the mound, Corbyn Torti delivered a masterful complete game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out five batters.

The Patriots continued their dominance in Game 2 of the doubleheader, securing an 8-1 victory. A powerful fifth inning saw the Patriots score five runs, putting the game out of reach for the Saints. Major Cantrell and Jacob Ovalle each drove in two runs to lead the offense. Starting pitcher Ryan Mendiola earned the win after six strong innings, allowing just three hits and one run while recording seven strikeouts.

Monday's series finale featured more offensive fireworks as the Patriots completed the sweep with a 10-8 victory in a back-and-forth contest. Arlington Baptist took an early 3-1 lead in the first inning and added another run in the third. After Randall scored twice in the top of the seventh to tighten the game, the Patriots responded with six consecutive runs in the bottom half of the inning to take command. The Saints rallied with four runs in the eighth, but the Patriots held on for the victory.

Sophomore pitcher Nathan Duvall earned the win in the finale, striking out eight batters over six innings while allowing seven hits and three runs.

The Patriots next series is against Kansas Christian College, Feb. 28 - March 1 in Overland Park, Kansas.
