The Arlington Baptist University Men's Soccer team wrapped up their season by advancing to the NCCAA Southwest Regional Finals, where they came up short against Southwestern Adventist University in a 3-1 loss. Southwestern Adventist will advance to the national tournament in Florida.
Despite the loss, the Patriots finish the year with three All-Region selections. Freshman forward Luca Sortini led the way offensively, scoring 8 goals on 15 shots with 2 assists for a team-high 18 points. Junior midfielder Ismael Calderon was a key link between the attack and defense, providing stability and leadership in controlling the tempo of play throughout the season. Rounding out the All-Region honors, freshman goalkeeper Dante Buentello recorded 40 saves with a 54% save percentage, anchoring the Patriots' defense in his first collegiate season.
We would also like to highlight sophomore Adam Rodriguez for an amazing week, finishing with 3 goals and 1 assist.
The Patriots close out the year proud of their accomplishments and optimistic for the future. With an extremely young roster — including around 20 freshmen — the team looks forward to building on this year's success and proving they are a force to be reckoned with in the Southwest Region next season.
