Women’s Soccer Moves to 2-1

The Lady Patriot Soccer Team enjoyed two wins against Eastfield College and Cedar Valley College this week, moving their overall record to 2-1! They first defeated Eastfield by a score of 4-2, and then had a shutout win against Cedar Valley College with a score of 6-0.

The Lady Patriots were led by freshman, Caitlan Gonzalez, who netted three goals in each game and also added two assists in the second game. Two more freshmen, Alex Cereceres and Valerie Arbaiza, also had notable scoring performances. Cereceres had one goal in each game while also collecting two assists, and Arbaiza added two goals in the final game of the week.

In Friday’s 6-0 win against Cedar Valley College, goalkeeper, Karina Rivera got the first shutout ever for the ABU women’s soccer program. She was aided by the defensive lineup of Alexis Delgado, Rosana Estrada, Bianca Nieto, and Bessy Alvarado.

Upon her stellar performances in both games, Caitlan Gonzalez was named the NCCAA DII National Women’s Soccer (Offensive) Player of the Week! She is the first Lady Patriot soccer player to win the award in program history. Patriot Nation is proud of you, Caitlan!
