Women Capture Regionals for Sixth Year in a Row

JOPLIN, Mo- The Arlington Lady Patriots secured their ticket to nationals after a hard fought regional tournament.  They begin their journey against the four seed Dallas Christian College winning 108-66. The Patriots had five girls in double figures, Kira Gaitan lead all with 21 points.

The following day the one seed faced off against the three seed Manhattan Christian College. MCC wrecked havoc throughout the whole tournament, but ABU managed to come out victorious.  The fourth quarter ended at 92 a piece after freshman Kira Gaitan knocked down the game tying free throw.  However, Arlington stole the overtime period winning 14-5 and the final score of 106-97.  The Southwest Region MVP, Zayda Gonzalez led all scorers with a school record 44 points. Sophomore Carmen Williams record a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. The lone senior, Kayla Beattie tallied 19 points as well.  Then, the clutch freshman, Kira Gaitan bucketed 10 points and seven steals.

All five starters were honored with All-Regional awards:

Kira Gaitan- Honorable Mention

Daija Stanford- Second Team All-Region

Kayla Beattie- First Team All-Region

Carmen Williams- First Team All-Region

Zayda Gonzalez- NCCAA Southwest Region Most Valuable Player

Coach McDaniel- NCCAA Southwest Coach of the Year
