Game 1
Patriots won the hit battle 9-7 on Saturday, but couldn’t push enough runs across to get the win, instead losing 6-4 in seven innings to LeTourneau at Longview.
The Patriots jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Tyler Brown (Sophomore Bastrop, TX) kicked things off for the Patriots with a single. A single by Cameron Guzman (Freshman San Antonio, TX) moved Brown from first to third. The Patriots added more runs when Guzman scored on an RBI single by Justin Olivarez (Freshman San Antonio, TX)
LeTourneau survived the Patriot’s surge and put up two runs of its own in the first. LeTourneau scored on a sacrifice fly by Empkey and an RBI double by Wadyko. LeTourneau pushed across one run in the second and third innings.
Brandon Halm (Freshman Round Rock, TX) ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. Halm lasted two innings, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
Game 2
LeTourneau’s lineup had no answer for Josh Darden (Sophomore Athens, TX) in game two. LeTourneau managed just three hits off of Darden, who allowed one earned run, walked four and struck out three during his six innings of work.
After pushing across one run in the bottom of the seventh, LeTourneau faced just a 6-3 deficit. A passed ball fueled LeTourneau’s comeback. But, Drake Boswell (Junior, Grand Prairie, TX) got Simmons to to end the game.
