Arlington, Texas- Zayda Gonzalez is a 5’2 senior guard from Keene, Texas. She was being escorted today by her parents,Angel and Maria Gonzalez. Zayda will complete her studies in the fall of this year with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
Zayda has scored 1,910 career points. She averaged 17.8 points per game. The shooting guard was 46% from the field, 40% from beyond the arc, and 80% from the free throw line. She has gathered 497 rebounds, 331 assists, 334 steals, and 28 blocks.
Gonzalez holds three Arlington Baptist University school records. She has taken the most charges in a game against Dallas Christian College in 2017 with 5. In 2016, against Texas College, she was 9/9 to earn the best free throw percentage in a game at 100%. She also holds the record for the most points scored in a game. Last year, in the 2018 NCCAA Southwest Region Championship, Zayda scored 44 points against Manhattan Christian College.
Zayda has earned numerous individual accolades as a member of the Lady Patriot squad. During her first year here she was ACCA 2nd Team All-American and the 2016 NCCAA National Tournament MVP. In her sophomore campaign she was the NCCAA Southwest Region MVP, ACCA 1st Team All-American, 3 point champion, NCCAA National Tournament MVP, and the NCCAA National Player of the Year. This last season #23 was again NCCAA Southwest Region MVP, ACCA 1st Team All-American, ACCA National Tournament MVP, 3 point champion, and back-to-back NCCAA NATIONAL Player of the Year.
Thus far, Zayda and her team accumulated 83 wins and only 27 losses. With Zayda on the court they won 75% of the games they played. Gonzalez has NEVER lost a championship game. She is a 3x NCCAA Southwest Regional Champion, 3x ACCA National Champion, and 3x NCCAA National Champion. We are hoping the trend continues to finish out the 2019 Region, ACCA, and NCCAA Champions.
Zayda is the most decorated player to come through Arlington Baptist University. Her presence on and off the court will be next to impossible to duplicate. Thank you Zayda! We will miss you!
