The Arlington Baptist Patriots took a well earned victory last night over the Dallas Christian Crusaders, 84-68, at home Tuesday, January 21, moving the team to 4-0 in Conference play.
The team was led by Senior Point Guard Simeon Brinkley, who nearly grabbed a double-double for the night, finishing with 9 assists and 13 points, going 3-4 from long range. At halftime the Patriots were up by only 12 points, a difference made by big-man Hugo Rodriguez who had ten boards in just twenty minutes of play! Hugo would finish the night with 11 boards and 14 points, bringing in the team its first double-double on the year in front of an excited home crowd.
The Patriots’ defensive pressure was intense the whole night. Stand out defenders were Junior Guard Joshua Green, with countless deflections and 4 steals, and Senior Postman Jeremiah Ford with two charges and great defensive pressure on the Crusader’s best Forward. Additionally, these men scored 15 and 20 respectively on the night.
The Patriots resume action this Friday against the Rhema Eagles. On their last meeting the Eagles took a win from the Patriots by one point in a highly defensive contest, 58-59. This rematch is expected to be a close one and will be hosted on the Patriots’ Homecoming Night in the J. Frank Norris Auditorium.
Tip off is at 7:00pm.
