Patriots Take Down #6 Ranked Champion Christian at Home

The Arlington Baptist University men’s basketball team took on the #1 team in the Southwest Region and #6 in the Nation, Champion Christian College. The Patriots looked to avenge their 12-point loss to the Tigers just one week prior.

The whole game was very back and forth with several lead changes throughout each half. The Patriots gained led by as much as 7 points in the first half, but the Tigers would fight back to take the 5-point lead going into halftime. Da’Vione Stafford would dominate the paint for the Patriots, scoring a game-high and career-high of 31 points and grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds for a double-double. Freshman, Cutter Camp, did not play like a typical freshman, putting up 22 points and knocking down three 3-pointers against one of the top teams in the Country. These efforts would lead ABU to their first Southwest Region and their first win over a ranked team by score of 87-72.

Gage Hulse also had a solid performance with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jamar McCray was second on the team in rebounds with 8 and also added 5 points and 3 assists. Maurice Walker also added 9 points and 6 rebounds.

The Patriots will be back on their home court on Friday to take on Randall University. GO PATRIOTS!
