The Arlington Baptist Men’s Basketball team tipped off against the University of Dallas Crusaders at 7:00 pm last night, Friday December 5th. In the first half, the Patriots dug themselves a hole early by getting down 18-10 but battled back by half time thanks to the help of sparks from the bench such as freshman Jamie Briceno, Willie Clayborne and starter Jeremiah Ford who helped the Patriots to an 11 point lead going into the locker room. In the second half, the Crusaders made some great adjustments and came out strong. Led by Senior Ross Davidson who had 21 points alone in the second half, the Crusaders went up by ten with seven minutes left in the game. But with a few defensive stops and a key block in the final seconds by Junior Center Hugo Rodriguez, the Patriots forced an extra five minutes in OT.
Willie Clayborne was the spark that made the difference in the Overtime period as he scored 8 points in the first three and half minutes and totaled 17 on the night with 2 key blocks and 8 boards. With seconds closing, senior point guard Simeon Brinkley knocked down a pair of clutch free throws to put the Patriots up by 3, a deficit of which the Crusaders could not recover from.
Four other Patriots reached double figures on the night as the Patriots claimed a hard fought 82-79 victory over the University of Dallas Crusaders.
