Patriots Place 2nd at the University of Dallas Invitational


Irving, TX- The Arlington Baptist College Patriot (@ABPatriots) cross country team kicked off the 2012 season at the University of Dallas Invitational.  The competitive field consisted of eight institutions from various associations-NCAA Division III, NAIA, and NCCAA Division II. The Patriots were the only NCCAA DII school amongst the pack and fared very well!  They finished as the meet’s runner-up team with 38 points, just eight behind the 2011 NAIA Red River Conference Champions Texas Wesleyan University. The Patriots had an impressive showing with 5 runners finish in the top 11 spots!

Arlington Baptist was led by German Lopez (Fr.) who finished the “HILLacious” course in 2nd place overall with a time of 28:45.  He was followed by 6th place finisher, Victor Puente (So.), who crossed the line at 29:40.  Captain, Daniel Arevalo (So.), finished in 9th place with the time of 29:56 and Daniel Ortega (So.) rounded out the meet’s top 10 finishers with the time of 29:57.  Daniel Garcia (Fr.) was just shy of becoming a top 10 finisher with his 11th place showing and 29:59 time. Zachary Thompson (So.), Elijah Vargas (Fr.), Robert Cruz (Fr.), and Alejandro Gutierrez (Fr.) finished in 26, 31, 35, and 36 respectively.

The Patriots will continue their quest for the NCCAA Div. II National Championship next Saturday, Sept. 8th at the UTA Season Opener.
