Baseball Running Home

SUNDAY APRIL 13, 2014

An excellent effort by Michael Scruggs (Sr./Kemp, TX) carried the Patriots (20-25) to a 4-0 win over their final game against Texas Southern University on Saturday in the TSU Classic at the Houston Astros MLB Training Facility in Houston, TX.

The starter, Scruggs, kept Texas Southern University off the scoreboard for all nine innings as he tossed a masterful complete game shutout. Dehryen Noriega (Fr./Keller, TX) paced Patriots at the plate going 3-4 while driving in a run. Noriega doubled in the fifth inning, and singled in the third and ninth inning.

The game was never in doubt after the fourth, as Patriots scored one run on an RBI double by Florentino Moreno (Jr./Little Elm, TX), and added two more runs in the top of the ninth off of Hestand Foster’s (Sr./Waxahachie, TX) single, scoring Zachary Thompson (Jr./Whitehouse, TX).

The Arlington Baptist College Patriots were 1-2 in the tournament with a Friday loss of 3-12 to TSU and a 2-6 loss to University of Houston-Victoria. Devin Patton (Sr./Cedar Hill, TX) and Caleb Sims (Sr./Abilene, TX) took the losses in Friday’s action.

Arlington will return to action Tuesday at Northwood University at 1pm for their final game with the Knights.  The Patriots will pick up action against regional opponent Manhattan Christian College this weekend in Manhattan, KS, with two games on Friday and one game on Saturday.
