Patriots Defeat #18 Tarleton in Final Game of Series

The Arlington Baptist Patriots baseball team completed a three game series with a victory over #18 Tarleton State University after letting game one and two slip away from them.

In game one, Trevor Moon was hot from the plate for Patriots going 3-4 in game 1 and scoring two runs. He tripled in the third inning and singled in the first and fifth innings.

The top of the first saw Patriots take an early lead, 2-0. Trevor got things going for Patriots with a single. A double by Josh Eatherly then moved Moon from first to third. Patriots then tacked on more runs when Eatherly scored on an RBI single by Justin Watson.

Patriots scored one run in the third inning, and then followed it up with one more in the fifth. In the third, Patriots scored on an error, scoring Moon again.

Tarleton State University answered Patriots’ top inning with one run of its own in the third.

TSU didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring two runs off an RBI double in the fourth inning.

 

In game 2 of the series, the Patriots outhit Tarleton State but fell behind for good after a Tarleton 5 run second inning.

Zachary Thompson was hot from the plate for Patriots. Thompson went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the fifth and seventh innings.

The Patriots jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Arlington got things going when Josh Eatherly singled. A single by Ryan Wagley then moved Eatherly from first to third. Patriots pushed more runs across when Wagley scored on an RBI single by Justin Watson.

Tarleton State University didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring five runs in the second inning when it scored on two sacrifice flys and one on a single.

Tarleton State University brought home one run in the fifth inning, and matched that run total in the sixth.

Three runs in the top of the seventh helped Patriots close its deficit to 7-5 with an RBI single by Thompson, a sacrifice fly by Eatherly, and an RBI single by Wagley.

In the final game of the weekend series, Ryan Wagley brought home the winning run to give Patriots the lead in the sixth inning, as Patriots hung on to beat Tarleton State University 10-7 on Saturday afternoon.

After Josh Eatherly singled, Wagley came to the plate with the score tied at one in the sixth inning, and singled, scoring Eatherly. Wagley racked up two RBIs on three hits in game three for the Patriots.

Tino Moreno racked up four RBIs on one hit for Patriots while igniting an offensive explosion with a two-run home run in the sixth.

Patriots increased its lead with six runs in the seventh. An error scored Hestand Foster to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Wagley’s single, plating Trevor Moon.

Three runs in the bottom of the ninth helped Tarleton State University close its deficit to 10-7, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Patriots away from an impressive win in Stephenville.

The Arlington Baptist College Patriots baseball team will return to action this week with five home games. The Patriots will take on the University of Science & Arts Oklahoma with a double header beginning at 2pm Tuesday at LaGrave Field and will then match up for a home 3-game series this weekend against Manhattan Christian College.
