Patriot XC Finishes 3rd at Angelo State University

SAN ANGELO, TX: The Patriot Cross Country team traveled to the Blue and Gold Classic hosted by Angelo State University on Tuesday, Oct. 9th.  The field was stacked with NCAA Division II competition featuring the #9 regionally ranked Rams of Angelo State and the very talented Tarleton State University. The Patriots finished in third place with 70 points only behind Tarleton State (30 points ) and Angelo State (39 points), fourth place belonged to the University of Texas Permian-Basin (83 points).

Alex Maciel (Fr.) led the Patriots and also set a personal best in the 8,000m race with the time of 27:36 which was good enough for 8th place overall.  He was followed by Daniel Ortega (So.) who also ran a PR with the time of 27:54 finishing in 11th place.  German Lopez was the third Patriot to cross the line, finishing before the meet’s team winner, Tarleton State’s, fifth runner came in, 13th overall.  Daniel Arevalo (So.) and Robert Cruz (Fr.) rounded out the teams top 5 with finishes of 18th and 20th respectively.

The Patriots’ final competition before the NCCAA DII National Championships will take place on Sat. Oct. 20th at the NAIA Mid-States Classic hosted by Southwest Christian College in Winfield, Kansas.
