Men’s & Women’s Basketball Finish Semester Strong

The Arlington Baptist University men’s and women’s basketball teams finished the semester strong with two wins against Southwest Region opponent, Ozark Christian College on Friday night in Joplin, Missouri.

After a 15 point win against Bacone College on Tuesday, our women’s basketball team enjoyed a successful trip to Missouri, finishing 3-0 on the week. On Thursday, the Lady Patriots took on Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri who previously held an overall record of 7-2. Senior guard, Rebecca Farmer, led the Lady Patriots in the 92-70 win with 19 points and 4 steals. Three other Lady Patriots also scored in double figures: Aaliyiah Clark (17), Peniah Waites (17), and Heaven Muenster (13). Aaliyiah Clark led the team in steals with 8, and Jakayla Bradford led the team in rebounds with 10.

On Friday, both men’s and women’s basketball teams secured wins against Ozark Christian College; the Lady Patriots won 85-70, and the Patriots won 93-85. Rebecca Farmer, again, led the Lady Patriots in scoring with 34 points. Farmer nearly tied the women’s basketball record for three-pointers made (9), going 8 of 11 from behind the arc. Aaliyiah Clark and Heaven Muenster also scored in double figures, adding 13 and 10 points, respectively. Peniah Waites led the team in rebounds with 10, and tied Aaliyiah Clark for the most steals with 5.

Tra Mallard led the Patriots in scoring with 26 points, and in steals with 3. Three other Patriots also scored in double figures: Da’vionne Stafford (20), Trey Ballard (17), and Sheldon Hodge (15). Sheldon Hodge finished the game with a double-double, grabbing 14 rebounds along with his 15 point scoring performance. Da’vionne Stafford led the team in blocked shots with 3.

Both men’s and women’s basketball teams are now undefeated in NCCAA play. We look forward to see what success the second semester will bring, and we wish our Patriot Family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
