Men’s and Women’s Basketball Take Down SWAU

The Arlington Baptist University men’s and women’s basketball programs enjoyed wins in their last home game of the season against Southwest Region opponent, Southwestern Adventist University.

The Lady Patriots had no issues with the Lady Knights of SWAU. Jakayla Bradford scored the first 6 points for ABU, and also reached her 1,000 career point in doing so. They maintained a comfortable lead throughout most of the game and remained undefeated against SWAU with a final score of 112-37. Bradford led her team in scoring with 21 points. Da’Myia Derby added 11 points and 10 assists for a double-double. Derby also led her team in steals with 5 and blocks with 3. Three other Lady Patriots scored in double figures as well: Alyssa Prier with 16 points; Lexi Campbell with 15 points; and Aspyn Huseman with 14 points. 

The men’s basketball game was much more competitive with the Patriots going into halftime down by 1 point. However, they were able to fight back and avenge their previous loss to the Knights with a final score of 84-71. Maurice Walker led the Patriots in scoring 21 points, shooting 70% from the field. Da’Vione Stafford was second in scoring with 20 points, shooting over 50% from the field. Jamar McCray tied Walker and Stafford for a team-high in rebounds with 7, and added 10 points himself. Gage Hulse and Cameron Smith each added 11 points. Hulse also dished out 7 assists for a team-high.

Both men’s and women’s basketball teams will wrap up with regular season with two away games. First against Dallas Christian College on Friday, and then against Randall University on Saturday. GO PATRIOTS!
