History was made Monday night as the Arlington Baptist Patriots Basketball team defeat the Dallas Christian Crusaders 78-68 to go a perfect 8-0 in Regional play for the year.
Led by Junior Guard Joshua Green, the Patriots battled a tough game out on the road as Green posted 26 points, going 4-7 from deep and connecting 6 out of 7 free-throws.
The Crusaders came prepared for their Regional Opponent as they shot very well from the field on their home court and successfully limited the Patriots’ offense early on as they began the game going up 14-6 within five minutes of play.
The Patriots shot under their typical shooting percentage on the night, rounding off to 43.1%, but managed to make several key plays down the stretch when a loss came breathing down their necks.
With 6:00 remaining on the game clock, the Patriots were down by six points and were left without their Senior starting Point Guard Simeon Brinkley who fouled out moments prior to the six minute mark.
The pressure was on, but thanks to quick offensive conversions and a couple of clutch free-throws by Joshua Green as well as two key offensive rebounds and a block in the closing minutes by Junior Patrick Howard (who had 10 points and 9 boards on the night), the Patriots pulled away by six points – icing the game to 10 with additional free-throws at the end.
The Patriots made school history as they have gone undefeated in Regional Play for the first time ever, outscoring their opponents on average 98-78
The Patriots will enter the NCCAA Regional Tournament as the undisputed #1 seed and will play either Barclay College or Ozark Christian College Friday Night in Dallas, Texas.
Traveling to Houston for a pre-tournament tune up, the Patriots will face off against NCAA Division I Houston Baptist University at 7:00 pm in the Sharp Gymnasium.
